Today’s Headlines, History’s Lessons

Fear of Terrorism, Concern about Immigration, Threats to National Security.  Any of these themes could be plucked from the front page of today’s newspaper. But are these concerns anything new, or are they just the most recent recurrence of age-old themes in American history?  How have these been exploited to partisan advantage in our history?

This week’s Think Tank explores the extent to which these have been part of recurrent themes in American history—as far back as the days of Washington and Jefferson.  And we take this exploration with a real-life historian, Arizona historian Jack August.
