Arizona Republican Governor: Hillary Persecution “Political”

On KTAR 92.3 FM Phoenix’s “Think Tank” former Arizona governor Fife Symington characterized the pursuit of Hillary Clinton as “political”.Governor Symington was asked: “Can you think of any other recent prosecutions that you think have been essentially political?”

Without prompting, his response went to the case of Hillary Clinton, “. . . this whole business with Hillary right now and the emails and the blood lust that you’re seeing“. He continued: “And I think justice has become very political in this country and it’s going to undermine the strength of the justice system, the legitimacy of it in the eyes of the normal citizen.”

Michael ONeil, who was interviewing Symington made the following observation:

“What was striking to me was that I explicitly did NOT ask about, nor even mention, Hillary Clinton by name.  Governor Symington’s comments were given to a general question about political prosecutions.  Symington had just concluded a discussion of his own prosecution while he was Governor of Arizona and I asked him whether he could think of any other prosecutions he thought were politically motivated.  It was striking to me that, without prompting, his response went to the case of Hillary Clinton.”

The comments echo those of Republican House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy who created a firestorm when he described the Benghazi committee as having had the desired impact on Secretary Clinton’s poll numbers.

Symington was a Republican Governor of Arizona from 1991-1997.
