The Arizona Republic’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton

The Arizona Republic endorsed a Democratic candidate for president of the United States for the first time in its 126-year history. Phil Boas is editor of the Republic’s editorial pages and a member of the nine-member board that made the endorsement decision.

He is our sole guest in this week’s Think Tank.  We discuss the reason the Republic made this historic endorsement, whether its status as a “first” played a role in the board’s discussion, the often misunderstood line of separation between the paper’s editorial and news divisions, and the various reactions to this endorsement, at least one of which was a threat to the paper that was investigated by Phoenix police.
